S&P Global Market Intelligence, a leading provider of financial data and research, is looking for a skilled reporter to join its TMT news team. The team covers regulatory changes, deal activity, and business trends impacting the tech, media, and telecom sectors. The reporter will focus on US federal agencies that regulate tech, media, and telecom companies, as well as legislative bodies overseeing these industries.

Responsibilities for the tech policy reporter include researching, analyzing, and reporting on how regulatory and legal decisions affect major tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple. The reporter will also cover issues such as net neutrality, consumer privacy, cybersecurity, media ownership, and social media’s role in society. Additionally, the reporter will explain the rationale behind regulations and policies at both the state and federal levels and provide insights on how these decisions impact businesses and consumers.

The position offers the opportunity to follow industry trends, write enterprise articles on important developments, and cover congressional hearings and agency meetings. The reporter will work closely with data analysts and industry experts to produce data-driven content for an influential audience that includes institutional investors, regulators, and Wall Street investment banks.

Basic requirements for the role include a bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience, at least 2 years of professional journalism experience, openness to editorial feedback, and a command of journalistic standards like AP style and libel issues. Preferred qualifications include 5+ years of journalism experience, knowledge of the communications, media, and information technology industries, familiarity with federal and state agency processes and policies, and experience with data journalism.

Compensation for the position, which is only applicable to US candidates, includes a base salary range of $51,289 to $105,400, with final salary determined by geographic location, experience level, skills, training, licenses, and certifications. The role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan.
