Orlando International Airport makes preparations for upgrades to terminals

Major Upgrade and Renovation Projects Underway at Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is bustling with activity as record travel demand pushes the airport to undertake major upgrade and renovation projects. With an estimated 60 million passengers expected to pass through the airport by the end of the year, airlines are working to meet the growing demand.

The airport has already made significant improvements, including the construction of a pedestrian walkway between Terminal C and the intermodal station. Terminal C, which opened in 2022, is the largest expansion project in the airport’s history and is currently being expanded to add eight more gates.

In addition to the upgrades at Terminal C, renovations are also in progress at Terminals A and B. The $40 million makeover will focus on refreshing and refurbishing various areas of the terminals, including gate areas and restrooms. The goal is to maximize the use of space in the existing terminals and enhance the passenger experience.

Beyond renovations, the airport is also looking to improve parking options for travelers. With nearly 22,000 parking spots property-wide, efforts are being made to ensure that parking is readily available. Plans are in place to expand the reserved parking program and install Parking Guidance System technology in the parking structures.

Looking ahead, the airport has long-term plans to build a consolidated rental car facility that is accessible by the existing people mover tram system. This would free up parking spaces in the garages currently occupied by rental car companies.

Passengers traveling through Orlando International Airport are encouraged to arrive early, with 3-2-1 in mind: 3 hours before your flight to find parking and check-in, 2 hours before your flight to get through TSA security, and 1 hour before your flight to be at your gate. With these improvements and plans for the future, Orlando International Airport is working to meet the needs of its growing number of passengers.
