First Batch of Team India Players to Depart for US on May 25 for T20 World Cup: Sources

The first batch of Team India players is all set to depart for the US on May 25 to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup, according to sources. The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA.

India’s T20 World Cup campaign will kick off on June 5 with a match against Ireland at the newly-constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash is set to take place on June 9. Team India will also face tournament co-hosts USA on June 12 and Canada on June 15 to wrap up their Group A matches.

The first batch of players will include those who are not involved in the playoffs stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. India will be aiming to break their ICC trophy drought, as they last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has come close to clinching titles in various ICC events but fell short of securing a major trophy.

In the upcoming T20 World Cup, India will be eager to lift the trophy for the first time since their victory in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007. The team faced a disappointing exit in the semifinals of the last edition held in Australia in 2022, losing to England by 10 wickets.

The squad for the tournament includes captain Rohit Sharma, vice-captain Hardik Pandya, and other key players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah. The reserves for the team consist of Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan.

Stay tuned for more updates on Team India’s journey in the ICC T20 World Cup as they aim to bring home the coveted trophy.
