COLORADO PASSES BILL TO REGULATE AI DISCRIMINATION IN DECISION-MAKING

In a groundbreaking move, Colorado has become the first state to pass a bill aimed at regulating artificial intelligence programs that have been found to discriminate in hiring, housing, and medical decisions. The bill, signed by Governor Jared Polis, has sparked a heated debate between civil rights groups, the tech industry, and lawmakers.

The new law requires companies to assess the risk of discrimination from their AI systems and inform customers when AI was used to make consequential decisions for them. While larger AI companies have accepted the need for regulation, smaller startups are expressing concerns about the impact of such laws on innovation. However, proponents of the bill argue that transparency and oversight are crucial in addressing algorithmic discrimination.
