The golfing world is in mourning as US golfer Grayson Murray has passed away at the age of 30, the PGA Tour announced. The two-time PGA Tour champion had recently withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge event due to illness.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan expressed his devastation over the loss, stating, “We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that Grayson Murray passed away this morning. The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”
Murray, a standout young player, had won three straight Junior World Championships from 2006-08 before qualifying for the PGA Tour in 2016-17. He went on to win his first PGA Tour title at the Barbasol Championship in 2017 and secured a second career title at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Despite his success on the course, Murray had openly shared his struggles with mental health issues and alcoholism. His passing has led to an outpouring of condolences from the golfing community, with players like Luke Donald and Bubba Watson expressing their sadness over the loss.
