Scary Encounter with Sand Mafia: Vicky Kaushal recalls incident during Gangs of Wasseypur shoot

Vicky Kaushal, the talented actor known for his roles in hit movies like Uri: The Surgical Strike and Raazi, recently shared a chilling incident from his time as an Assistant Director on Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur. In an interview with Tanmay Bhat on his YouTube channel, Vicky recounted a scary encounter with the sand mafia that almost turned violent.

The incident occurred when the film crew went to capture visuals of illegal sand mining. Vicky described the scene, saying, “I was baffled because that was the first time I realized that this happens so openly that you wouldn’t feel that this is actual smuggling going on; you would feel that it is a properly run business because there weren’t just two trucks standing there, there were 500 trucks.”

As they were shooting secretly, a group of 500 people surrounded them, leading to a tense situation. Vicky narrated how the camera attendant, an older man, called for help, which led the mafia to mistakenly believe that he was contacting someone influential. This misunderstanding escalated quickly, with the mafia threatening to break the camera and even physically assaulting the crew members.

Thankfully, Vicky and his colleague managed to escape unharmed, but the incident left a lasting impact on the actor. Vicky’s bravery and quick thinking in a dangerous situation showcase the challenges faced by filmmakers and artists in the industry.

Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming projects include the epic drama Chhaava, and he was recently seen in Bad Newz, a romantic comedy based on a rare medical condition. Despite the dangers he faced in his early days in the industry, Vicky continues to impress audiences with his versatile performances.
