Ukrainian Foreign Minister Seeks “Common Ground” with China to End War with Russia

In a historic move, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba embarked on a mission to seek common ground with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to end the ongoing war with Russia. The conflict, now in its third year, has strained relations between Ukraine and Russia, leading to international tensions.

Video footage released by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry captured the moment Kuleba arrived in Guangzhou, China, for the crucial meeting—the first of its kind since the war erupted in 2022. Wang Yi expressed China’s commitment to its relationship with Ukraine, highlighting the growth in trade between the two nations despite the complex global and regional landscape.

China’s close ties with Russia have positioned it as a critical player in the efforts to establish peace in Ukraine. While Western countries and the United States demand a Russian withdrawal as a precursor to any settlement, China has advocated for a resolution that considers the interests of all parties involved.

Although China did not participate in a recent peace conference in Switzerland that excluded Russia, Kuleba emphasized the importance of seeking common ground in the pursuit of peace. He acknowledged China’s potential role in achieving a just and stable resolution to the conflict, signaling hope for progress in the negotiations.

The visit marks a significant milestone in diplomatic efforts to end the war and restore peace in Ukraine. Both Kuleba and Wang Yi are expected to engage in extensive discussions to chart a path towards a peaceful resolution. The international community eagerly awaits the outcomes of these crucial negotiations as the world watches closely for developments in the region.
