Superintendent Highlights the Positive Impact of Unified Sports on East Greenwich Community

Embracing Unity Through Unified Sports: A Message from the Superintendent – East Greenwich News

Unified Sports, a program that brings together students with and without disabilities to compete on the same team, is making a positive impact in the East Greenwich community. According to Superintendent Dr. Alexis Meyer, Unified Sports is not only promoting inclusivity and teamwork, but also bringing out the best in everyone involved.

The program, which is a collaboration between the Special Olympics and the Rhode Island Interscholastic League, allows students of all abilities to participate in sports such as basketball, soccer, and track and field. Dr. Meyer believes that Unified Sports is not only beneficial for the student athletes, but also for the entire school community.

“Unified Sports is not just about competition, it’s about building relationships and fostering a sense of belonging,” Dr. Meyer said. “It’s amazing to see how the program brings out the best in our students, both on and off the field.”

In addition to promoting inclusivity, Unified Sports also helps to break down stereotypes and promote acceptance among students. By working together towards a common goal, students are able to see past their differences and focus on what unites them.

The success of Unified Sports in East Greenwich has not gone unnoticed. The program has received praise from parents, teachers, and students alike for its positive impact on the school community. Dr. Meyer hopes to see Unified Sports continue to grow and thrive in the years to come.

As Dr. Meyer puts it, “Unified Sports is not just a program, it’s a movement. It’s about creating a more inclusive and accepting community for all. And it’s bringing out the best in all of us.”
