SuperBook Sports Leaves Online Sports Betting Market Outside of Nevada
SuperBook Sports, the sports wagering unit of Westgate Resorts, has announced its decision to exit the online sports betting business outside of Nevada. In a post on social media, the gaming company stated that as of 8 pm Eastern time on July 19, 2024, bettors in eight states will no longer be able to place sports bets through SuperBook mobile wagering accounts. The affected states include Colorado, New Jersey, Arizona, Tennessee, Ohio, Iowa, Maryland, and Virginia.
Bettors in these states are encouraged to withdraw their funds immediately as SuperBook Sports will no longer be accepting wagers, deposits, or new accounts in these regions. The SuperBook Nevada mobile betting app will continue to operate, and the SuperBook sportsbook at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino will remain open. However, the fate of the SuperBook retail location at The Lodge Casino in Black Hawk, Colo., was not mentioned in the announcement.
This news comes as SuperBook Sports becomes the latest online sportsbook operator to exit the US market, following in the footsteps of Super Group, the parent company of Betway. The US sports wagering industry is dominated by major players like DraftKings and FanDuel, with smaller operators struggling to compete for market share.
Despite its strong brand recognition and reputation in Las Vegas, the SuperBook brand was unable to gain a foothold outside of Nevada. The SuperContest and SuperContest Gold are popular annual football wagering contests held at the Westgate SuperBook, but even these were not enough to compete with the industry giants.
The exit of SuperBook Sports from the online sports betting market highlights the challenges faced by smaller operators in the increasingly competitive industry. As the industry continues to evolve, we may see more companies reevaluating their presence in different states to stay competitive.
