U.S. Expresses Concern to Israel Over Airstrike in Rafah
Recent events in Rafah have sparked international concern and condemnation. The United States has expressed deep concern to Israel’s government over an airstrike in Rafah and called for an investigation into the incident that resulted in the death of at least 45 people. The State Department has emphasized the need for Israel to comply with international humanitarian law and minimize civilian casualties.
The airstrike, which targeted two senior Hamas operatives in a compound, caused a blaze in a tent camp in a designated “humanitarian zone” where displaced families sought shelter. Global leaders have expressed horror at the loss of life in Rafah, highlighting the challenges faced by civilians in the region.
State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that while Israel has the right to go after Hamas terrorists, it also has an obligation to protect civilians and minimize harm during military operations. The situation in Gaza remains incredibly challenging, with more than 36,000 Palestinians killed since the start of Israel’s offensive.
The U.S. will closely monitor the results of Israel’s investigation into the airstrike and continue to press for the protection of civilians and the flow of humanitarian assistance in the region. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has raised concerns about the escalation of violence and the impact on innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
