Selena Gomez Unsure About Touring in the Future: A Look at Her Mental Health Struggles
Selena Gomez, the talented singer and actress, is still uncertain about whether she will return to touring live again after canceling her “Revival” tour nearly eight years ago due to mental health struggles. In a recent interview with TIME, Gomez revealed that she is “50-50” on the prospect of launching a major tour in the future.
The Grammy nominee opened up about the emotional toll that touring takes on her, describing it as “very draining” and mentioning that she feels surrounded by people she’s paying to be there. Gomez’s last tour in 2016 was cut short after 55 dates when she checked into a treatment center to address anxiety and depression, side effects of her battle with lupus, an autoimmune disease she was diagnosed with in 2015.
In her 2023 documentary, “My Mind and Me,” Gomez shared footage of the pressure she felt to put on a perfect performance and the inner turmoil she experienced during rehearsals. Her best friend, Raquelle Stevens, revealed that the tour was ultimately canceled due to a “psychotic break” that Gomez experienced.
Despite these challenges, Gomez made a triumphant return to music in recent years, releasing the Spanish-language album “Revelación” and the hit single “Single Soon” in collaboration with Benny Blanco. She expressed uncertainty about her future in music, hinting at a possible return to acting and a desire to take a break and relax.
Currently, Gomez is busy filming the fourth season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and preparing to portray Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic. She also co-owns Rare Beauty and has no plans to sell the cosmetics company. With a successful career in both music and acting, Gomez continues to evolve and inspire fans around the world with her talent and resilience.
