World number one Scottie Scheffler detained by police outside Valhalla Golf Club
World number one golfer, Scottie Scheffler, was detained by police outside Valhalla Golf Club before the second round of the US PGA Championship. The 27-year-old was booked in at 7.28am local time after a misunderstanding with traffic flow, as reported by ESPN.
Videos from the scene in Louisville, Kentucky, showed Scheffler handcuffed and guided into a police car. The incident led to a delay in the tournament’s second round due to an unrelated accident near the course.
The Louisville Metro Police Department stated that a shuttle bus had struck and killed a pedestrian outside the golf club, but Scheffler was not involved in the accident. He reportedly attempted to avoid the scene before being stopped by police.
ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, described the events leading to Scheffler’s detainment. The golfer, known for recent victories at the Masters and RBC Heritage, will have to deal with this off-course controversy as he continues his pursuit of a third successive victory.
