Wiz Khalifa arrested for drug abuse during performance in Romania
American rapper Wiz Khalifa made headlines over the weekend for all the wrong reasons. The hip-hop star was arrested for drug abuse during his performance at the Beach Please! Festival in Romania.
During his set, Khalifa brazenly smoked marijuana on stage, much to the shock of the audience and the dismay of law enforcement. Footage from the festival circulated on social media showing Khalifa casually puffing away on a joint, while the emcee Black and Yellow was arrested by the police.
In a press release issued by Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors DIICOT, it was confirmed that Khalifa was found in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis and was consuming the drug on stage. This act is strictly prohibited in Romania, where marijuana is illegal for recreational use.
Following his arrest, Khalifa took to social media to issue a public apology. He acknowledged his mistake, stating, “I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big a** joint next time.”
Interestingly, the Beach Please! venue was also the site of an anti-drug campaign led by YouTuber and festival co-founder Andrei Selaru in collaboration with the Romanian Internal Ministry. This ironic turn of events underscores the importance of obeying local laws and regulations, even for international stars.
Khalifa’s brush with the law in Romania serves as a cautionary tale for artists and performers who may be tempted to flout legal boundaries in the pursuit of entertainment. It’s a reminder that no one is above the law, no matter how famous or talented they may be.
