Nikki Glaser Roasts Golfer Scottie Scheffler at 2024 ESPYS
Celebrity comedian Nikki Glaser made headlines at the 2024 ESPYS with her witty and playful roasts, and golfer Scottie Scheffler was on the receiving end of one of her jokes. Glaser took the stage to present the award for Best Male Athlete and didn’t hold back when she mentioned Scheffler’s high-profile arrest in May.
During her presentation, Glaser jokingly referenced Scheffler’s arrest by saying, “I’m sorry, Scottie. I do know that golfing is hard. I mean there’s putting, chipping, and driving over a cop’s leg.” The audience erupted in laughter at her cheeky jab.
But Glaser wasn’t the only one poking fun at Scheffler. Fellow professional golfer Xander Schauffele revealed that their group chat now features Scheffler’s mugshot as the profile photo, and other golfers like Gary Woodland, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas joined in on the friendly teasing. Despite the relentless ribbing, Scheffler reportedly took it all in stride and handled the situation like a champ.
The incident that sparked all the jokes occurred on May 17 when Scheffler was detained by the Louisville Metro Police following an accident in which a pedestrian was struck. The mishap led to the temporary closure of the road into Valhalla Golf Club and delayed the start of the 2024 PGA Championship.
Despite the arrest and the media frenzy that followed, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell announced that prosecutors would not be pursuing charges against Scheffler. The golfer expressed no ill will towards Officer Gillis, acknowledged the challenges police officers face, and extended his condolences to the family of the pedestrian involved in the incident.
Scheffler competed in the PGA Championship following the arrest, showing resilience and determination in the face of adversity. While the incident may have caused a stir, Scheffler’s ability to bounce back and continue playing at a high level demonstrates his professionalism and strength in the face of challenges.
