Taylor Swift’s Influence on the NFL Schedule and Kansas City Chiefs Fans
The NFL has been making headlines recently for what some fans believe is bending over backwards to accommodate pop star Taylor Swift. Last season, Swift was a regular at Kansas City Chiefs games to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, causing quite a stir each time she showed up to cheer on the team.
Swift made 13 appearances at NFL games last season, including the Super Bowl in Las Vegas where the Chiefs clinched their second consecutive championship. With a new season on the horizon, fans were speculating whether the NFL would adjust the schedule to allow Swift to continue attending games.
The NFL’s vice president of broadcast planning, Mike North, confirmed that the upcoming season’s schedule had indeed been shifted to accommodate Swift’s concert dates. However, he denied any conspiracy theories that suggested the league was specifically trying to make it easier for Swift to attend Chiefs games.
One fan took to social media to express their thoughts, stating, “I’m not knocking Taylor Swift but the NFL bending their schedule around her concerts is DESPERATE.” Another fan added, “Another example of how far the NFL has fallen.”
North revealed that the league took into account Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ concert dates when crafting the schedule, considering venues in cities such as Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis. However, he dismissed rumors linking the Chiefs’ away game against the Buffalo Bills to Swift’s concert in Toronto.
Looking ahead, it remains to be seen if Swift will continue her streak of attending NFL games in the upcoming season. After her European tour leg, Swift’s schedule is clear until November when she kicks off her tour again in Toronto.
Hans Schroeder, the league’s executive vice president of media distribution, emphasized the complexities of creating the NFL schedule, highlighting the importance of balancing competitive equality, media partnerships, team logistics, and fan experience.
As fans eagerly await the start of the new NFL season, one thing is for sure – Taylor Swift’s presence at games is sure to be a topic of conversation once again.
