Netanyahu Furious over Planned Arrest Warrant by ICC

Israeli Prime Minister Condemns ICC’s Prosecutor for Seeking Arrest Warrants

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly condemned the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor for seeking arrest warrants for him and Hamas leaders over alleged war crimes in the Gaza conflict. The ICC accused Mr Netanyahu and his Defence Minister of bearing criminal responsibility for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, prompting a furious response from Israel and its key ally, the US. US President Joe Biden stated there was no equivalence between Israel and Hamas, while Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the move “shameful” and jeopardizing ceasefire efforts. The ICC defended its stance, sparking international debate on the issue. Israel’s long-serving prime minister dismissed the accusations as “absurd and false” and contrasting “victim with the executioner.” The situation continues to escalate as the ICC considers issuing warrants for the leaders, with potential consequences for nations signed up to the ICC statute.
