Katy Fairbairn to Dance in Prague: A Love for Tap and a Passion for Performance
Katy Fairbairn, a talented dancer from Snow Valley, is gearing up to represent Team Canada at the International Dance Organization World Tap Dance Championships in Prague this fall.
Fairbairn, a second-year student at Queen’s University, has been putting in hours of rehearsals each week in preparation for the competition. Despite balancing a full-time job in digital marketing and communication, Fairbairn remains dedicated to her passion for dance.
Having trained in various dance styles, Fairbairn found her strength in tap dancing. She credits her years of training at All That’s Dance & More in Innisfil for helping her develop her skills. Currently, she is teaching at the Official Dance Project on Bayfield Street for the summer.
Fairbairn’s dedication to dance extends beyond her performances on stage. She is actively involved in the Queen’s University dance club and has taken on the role of director of marketing for the upcoming year. Additionally, she volunteers her time for the Vogue Charity Fashion Show, which raises money for a local charity.
This will be Fairbairn’s second time competing internationally, having previously participated in the competition in Zagreb, Croatia. She describes the experience as incredible and is looking forward to showcasing her talent on an international platform once again in Prague.
However, the trip and preparations come with a hefty cost, estimated to exceed $4,000. Fairbairn is actively seeking community sponsorships to help offset these expenses. Those interested in supporting her journey can contact her via email at [email protected] or on Instagram @katyfairbairn_.
With her passion, talent, and determination, Fairbairn is set to shine on the world stage in Prague this fall.
