“Former US Coach Gregg Berhalter Takes Helm at Chicago Fire | Latest Sports News”
Former US Men’s National Team coach Gregg Berhalter has been appointed as the new head coach of the Chicago Fire, the Major League Soccer (MLS) team announced today.
Berhalter, who most recently served as the head coach of the USMNT from 2018 to 2021, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Chicago Fire. During his tenure with the national team, Berhalter led the squad to a Gold Cup victory in 2019 and guided them to the quarterfinals of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gregg Berhalter to the Chicago Fire family,” said Chicago Fire owner Joe Mansueto. “His track record of success and his commitment to developing young talent make him the perfect fit for our organization.”
Berhalter, who also had a successful playing career in MLS with the LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew, is known for his tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of his players. He will be tasked with turning around a Chicago Fire team that has struggled in recent seasons.
“I am excited for the opportunity to lead the Chicago Fire and help the club reach its full potential,” said Berhalter. “I believe that with the right mindset and hard work, we can achieve great things together.”
The Chicago Fire finished in 11th place in the Eastern Conference last season and will be looking to improve on that performance under Berhalter’s leadership. The team will kick off their 2022 MLS campaign in March, with high hopes of making a strong playoff run with their new coach at the helm.
