Tenacious D Cancels Tour After Controversial Remarks
The popular comedy rock duo Tenacious D, comprised of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, has abruptly canceled the remainder of their tour following Gass’ controversial remarks about the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
During a concert in Sydney, Gass was presented with a birthday cake and asked to make a wish by Black. Shockingly, Gass responded, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” in reference to the rally shooting that left Trump with an injured ear. The video of Gass’s remark quickly went viral on social media.
In response to the backlash, Jack Black took to Instagram to express his disapproval of the comment. “I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” he stated. “After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold.”
Gass also issued an apology on Instagram, calling his improvised line “highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake.” He emphasized that he does not condone any form of violence against anyone.
The band’s tour, titled the “Spicy Meatball Tour,” was set to hit multiple cities in Australia and New Zealand before returning to the U.S. for additional dates in October. However, Frontier Touring announced that the concert in Newcastle was postponed, and ticket holders were advised to hold onto their tickets for further information.
As of now, refunds for the remaining tour dates have not been specified. The future of Tenacious D’s creative endeavors remains uncertain as they navigate the fallout from Gass’s remarks.
