Harris lambasts Trump for using border visit as political stunt
In a scathing rebuke, Vice President Kamala Harris accused former President Donald Trump of playing “political games” during his recent visit to the US-Mexico border. Harris, who has been tasked with addressing the root causes of migration from Central America, made her comments during a press conference in El Paso, Texas.
“Let me be clear: what we saw at the border was a direct result of the actions of the previous administration,” Harris said. “They played political games with people’s lives, and now we are left to deal with the consequences.”
Harris criticized Trump for his harsh immigration policies, including family separations and the construction of a border wall, which she described as “inhumane and ineffective.” She also accused him of using the border visit as a publicity stunt to further his own political agenda.
“We cannot let politics get in the way of addressing the real issues at hand,” Harris said. “We must work together to find humane and sustainable solutions to the challenges facing our border communities.”
The Vice President’s comments come as the Biden administration continues to grapple with a surge in migrant arrivals at the southern border. Harris has faced criticism from both Democrats and Republicans for not visiting the border sooner, but she defended her decision to focus on addressing the root causes of migration in Central America.
“We cannot simply react to the crisis at the border,” Harris said. “We must address the underlying issues that are driving people to make the dangerous journey north in the first place.”
Despite the criticism, Harris remains committed to finding long-term solutions to the border crisis and working with both domestic and international partners to address the root causes of migration. “We cannot afford to play political games with people’s lives,” she said. “We must come together to find real solutions that benefit all Americans.”
