Analysis: Mumbai Indians Admit Poor Quality Cricket Cost Them 2024 IPL Season
Mumbai Indians’ poor performance in the 2024 IPL season has left star all-rounder Hardik Pandya feeling dejected. The team, which finished in the second last place, failed to deliver quality cricket throughout the tournament, much to the disappointment of its fans.
Having finished last in the 2022 season as well, Mumbai Indians were hoping for a better outcome this year, especially with the return of Pandya to the squad. However, the team managed to win only four games out of 14 under his leadership, which ultimately led to their downfall.
“It was quite difficult. We did not play good quality cricket, eventually cost us the whole season,” Pandya expressed his disappointment after Mumbai Indians’ loss to Lucknow Super Giants.
Reflecting on the season, Pandya noted, “As a group we could not play quality cricket or smart cricket.” He added, “It’s a professional world. Have to always come out and put our best foot forward.”
On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants’ skipper KL Rahul, whose team also missed out on the playoffs, shared similar sentiments. Despite feeling disappointed, Rahul acknowledged the team’s collective failure to perform up to expectations.
“We didn’t play well enough collectively and couldn’t come together as much as we wanted to,” Rahul said, emphasizing the importance of both bowlers and batters performing in unison.
As the players begin to analyze what went wrong during the season, both Pandya and Rahul remain uncertain about their future roles in the team. While Pandya contemplates the team’s needs, Rahul remains non-committal about potentially shifting his position in the batting order.
With the IPL season coming to a close, both teams will be looking to regroup and strategize for the upcoming seasons to secure a better performance. It remains to be seen how Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants will bounce back from their disappointing campaigns in the 2024 IPL season.
