Global Internet Outage Impacts Illinois and Indiana Driver Service Facilities

The global internet outage on Friday caused chaos across various sectors, impacting everything from flights to hospitals to driver service facilities in Illinois and Indiana.

Microsoft’s major outage affected Chicago flights, public transportation, health systems, and more, leading to delays and disruptions in services. Illinois DMVs were among the locations hit, with Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias urging people to call before visiting. Similarly, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles faced transaction processing issues due to the outage.

Despite the challenges, Microsoft 365 reassured customers that they were working on redirecting traffic to minimize the impact and that service availability was improving. However, some customers might still experience issues, as per CNBC reports.

The cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, central to the outage, clarified that it was not a security incident or cyberattack. CEO George Kurtz assured that a fix had been deployed for the defect in a Windows update, which caused the problem. They recommended checking their support portal for updates.

As the world grappled with delayed and canceled flights due to the outage, the ongoing efforts to resolve the issue were seen as critical to restoring normalcy across affected sectors.
