Former NFL star Adrian Peterson facing warrants for arrest in Texas
Former Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson is facing warrants for his arrest in Texas after failing to appear in court for a child abuse case, according to USA TODAY.
Peterson, who currently plays for the Detroit Lions, was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a hearing related to a 2014 incident in which he was accused of injuring his son while disciplining him with a switch. The case gained national attention and resulted in Peterson being placed on the NFL’s exempt list for the remainder of the 2014 season.
The warrants for Peterson’s arrest were issued by a judge in Montgomery County, Texas, after he failed to appear in court. Peterson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, told USA TODAY that the missed court appearance was a “misunderstanding” and that they are working to resolve the issue.
Peterson, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and former NFL MVP, has had a storied career in the league, rushing for over 14,000 yards and 120 touchdowns. However, his off-field issues have overshadowed his on-field success at times, including the child abuse case in 2014.
The news of Peterson’s warrants for arrest come as he prepares for his 15th season in the NFL with the Lions. It remains to be seen how this legal issue will impact his future with the team and his playing career moving forward.
