Florida Teenager Survives Lightning Strike While Cutting Grass

A Florida teenager found himself in a terrifying situation this week when he was struck by lightning while cutting grass in his neighborhood. The dramatic incident was captured on video and shows 17-year-old Daniel Sharkey writhing in pain and unable to call out for help.

Sharkey, who was helping his neighbor mow their lawn in Seminole County outside of Orlando, noticed storm clouds approaching but thought he had more time before the weather turned dangerous. However, he was suddenly hit by a lightning bolt, knocking him unconscious.

Security footage from the scene depicts Sharkey lying on the ground, unable to move or speak, as concerned neighbors rushed to his aid. Despite his initial confusion upon regaining consciousness, he soon realized the severity of his injuries, with visible lightning strike marks on his arm.

The resilient teenager, known in his community for his charitable work through the “Cans Over Candy” initiative, where he collects canned goods for the local food bank on Halloween, expressed gratitude for those who came to his rescue. He described the experience as a harrowing ordeal and emphasized the importance of taking precautions during severe weather situations.

With a remarkable recovery ahead of him, Sharkey’s story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of lightning strikes and the importance of staying safe during storms.
