EA Sports Rakes in $66 Million from Deluxe Version of College Football 25

EA Sports cashed in big on the hype surrounding the release of College Football 25, raking in a staggering $66 million in just three days from eager fans willing to pay extra for early access to the highly-anticipated video game. The Deluxe Edition, priced at $99.99, allowed gamers on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and S to start playing on July 16, three days before the official release date of July 19.

2.2 million unique players took advantage of the early access period, with an additional 600,000 joining in through the EA Play trial. By charging $30 more for the Deluxe Edition compared to the regular version, EA Sports saw a massive profit from the add-on fee alone.

In a blog post, EA Sports expressed their excitement and gratitude for the overwhelming response to College Football 25, with the game being a labor of love for both the development team and the devoted fans of the franchise. Daryl Holt, SVP and Group GM of EA Sports, emphasized that the game was created for the fans, and the positive feedback from the college football community has been nothing short of spectacular.

The return of the College Football series comes after a hiatus since 2013, when EA Sports discontinued the franchise due to legal issues regarding compensation for student athletes. With the NCAA’s recent shift in rules allowing athletes to profit from their Name, Image, and Likeness, EA Sports seized the opportunity to revive the beloved game series.

Players in the game were offered up to $600 and a copy of College Football 25 in exchange for the rights to their likeness, with over 11,000 student athletes reportedly signing on. Washington defensive back Dyson McCutcheon expressed his excitement and gratitude for being featured in the game, highlighting the significance of this opportunity for collegiate athletes.

The success of College Football 25’s early access period sets the stage for a promising future for the franchise, as fans eagerly await more developments and updates from EA Sports.
