Crescent Regional Hospital in Lancaster, Texas, is making waves as it becomes the first hospital in the United States to utilize hologram technology for doctor visits. The hospital has installed “Holobox,” a 3D system created by Dutch company Holoconnects, which projects a life-sized hologram of a doctor for real-time consultations with patients at a clinic 30 miles away.

This innovative technology is a game-changer in the healthcare industry, offering patients and doctors a new way to connect without the need for physical presence. The Holobox features an 86-inch display with anti-glare glass and a transparent LCD screen, creating a realistic and life-size holographic image of the doctor. It also includes hi-fi speakers and a multi-touch operating system for seamless communication.

CEO Raji Kumar of Crescent Regional Hospital expressed excitement about the implementation of this cutting-edge technology, stating, “There’s so much artificial intelligence, robotic technology, so many things. So, I’m super excited about being able to bring some of this technology to North Texas.”

Steve Stirling, managing director of Holoconnects for North America, emphasized the potential for the technology to revolutionize doctor-patient relationships by providing real-time access to specialty care from anywhere in the world. This not only benefits patients but also saves doctors valuable time.

With plans to expand the use of hologram technology within the hospital and potentially to rural hospitals in underserved areas, Crescent Regional is paving the way for a new era of healthcare delivery. Kumar envisions a future where holographic visits are widespread, allowing doctors to connect with patients remotely and efficiently.

As more hospitals consider adopting similar hologram programs, the hope is to address doctor shortages and improve access to care for patients in need. Stirling and the team at Holoconnects are working on deploying the Holobox Mini, a more portable version of the technology that can be easily transported to various locations.
