Coast Guard rescues Dave Portnoy after his boat drifts off course near Nantucket

Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy Rescued by US Coast Guard after Boat Mishap

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy had a close call on the seas when his boat lost power and went adrift off Nantucket. Portnoy, known for his larger-than-life personality, shared the harrowing experience on social media, revealing that he had to be rescued by the US Coast Guard.

The incident unfolded after Portnoy unhooked his boat from a dock in Nantucket’s harbor, only to realize that the engine and breakers were dead. With no power, radio, or anchor, and facing heavy winds, Portnoy found himself adrift at sea.

In a video posted online, Portnoy recounted how he tried to navigate through the crowded harbor before setting off a flare gun to attract attention. Luckily, a nearby sailor noticed him and boarded his boat, eventually calling the Coast Guard for help.

Members of the Coast Guard, who were conducting a training exercise nearby, came to Portnoy’s aid and towed his boat back to land. Portnoy expressed his gratitude to the agency, thanking them for saving him from the ordeal.

Despite the rescue, Portnoy admitted that the experience may make him think twice about going back out on the water. “It’s a dangerous game, the sea’s angry, my friends,” he said. “Captain Dave may never go in the boat again.”

The Coast Guard responded to Portnoy’s video with a lighthearted message, reminding him to “boat safe” and sending greetings to his dog, Miss Peaches. The saga ended with Portnoy safe on land, grateful for the assistance of the Coast Guard in his moment of need.
