CBS Sports Secures U.S. TV Rights to English Football League Games

In an exciting turn of events, CBS Sports has landed a four-year deal to broadcast at least 250 English Football League (EFL) games across the Championship, League One, and League Two divisions, as well as the Carabao Cup and Bristol Street Motors Trophy competitions. The deal will run through the 2027/28 season and will kick off in August, with matches airing on Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, and CBS Sports Golazo Network.

This new partnership comes on the heels of the success of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham team, which was recently promoted to the EFL after starting out in the fifth-tier soccer league in Wales. The journey of the team was captured in the Emmy-winning FX docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham,” showcasing the determination and dedication of the players and fans.

With the Premier League continuing to be a mainstay on NBCUniversal’s platforms, including NBC, Peacock, and USA Network, the addition of EFL games on CBS Sports will provide American audiences with even more exciting soccer action to enjoy. The EFL has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, making it an attractive addition to CBS Sports’ lineup.

Dan Weinberg, executive vice president of programming at CBS Sports, expressed excitement about the new deal, stating, “With the EFL’s compelling storylines and growing popularity coupled with our first-class coverage, we look forward to further elevating this league in the U.S.” This move is set to diversify the soccer viewing options for American fans and expand the reach of English football in the U.S. market.

As NBC Sports continues to hold the exclusive U.S. rights to the Premier League through 2027-28, the addition of EFL games on CBS Sports promises to provide a well-rounded soccer viewing experience for fans across the country. With the success of recent soccer-themed shows like Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso,” the appetite for English soccer in the U.S. is stronger than ever, and CBS Sports is ready to deliver the action-packed matches to eager audiences.
