In a recent visit to Haiti, U.S. envoy to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, announced a whopping $60 million in aid to support the country’s people and alleviate suffering caused by gang violence. This humanitarian assistance will address critical gaps in nutrition, food security, shelter, and improve water and sanitation services, among other forms of support.

Furthermore, the United States, through the Department of Defense, will also provide a significant number of mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles to an international security mission aimed at tackling gang violence in Haiti. The State Department plans to procure additional armored vehicles to assist mission personnel as well.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, U.S.-Canadian anti-whaling activist, Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd activist group, has been detained in Greenland and faces possible extradition to Japan. Japan, which resumed commercial whaling in 2019, has issued an international warrant for Watson’s arrest, sparking concerns among conservationists for the welfare of large ocean mammals.

On a different note, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that the company will have humanoid robots in “low production” for internal use next year. Musk, who had previously mentioned a rollout by the end of 2024, now aims to have these robots in high production for other companies by 2026. Humanoid robots have been in development by various companies to address labor shortages and perform tasks that are dangerous or tedious.

In other news, President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 symptoms have almost completely subsided, according to his doctor. Biden, who tested positive for the virus, has been receiving treatment and remains in good health to carry out his presidential duties.

Lastly, a tragic discovery was made in a Canadian national park where the bodies of a couple who attempted to sail from Nova Scotia to the Azores using green energy were found washed ashore in a lifeboat. The 70-year-old man and 60-year-old woman from British Columbia were reported missing four weeks prior to the tragic discovery.
