“Over 800,000 Evacuated as Bangladesh Braces for Cyclonic Storm ‘Remal'”

As severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ approaches Bangladesh’s coastal districts, over 800,000 people have been evacuated to shelters in preparation for the potentially catastrophic weather event. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued warnings for high tidal surges and heavy rainfall, prompting the evacuation of vulnerable areas in Satkhira and Cox’s Bazar.

Remal is forecasted to make landfall between 6:00 pm and midnight, with the Met Office issuing “great danger signals” for several regions along the coast. State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohibur Rahman has assured that all necessary measures have been taken to tackle the severe cyclone, with a coordinated effort from relevant organizations.

Additionally, leaves of officials have been cancelled, operations at Chattogram Port have been suspended, and flights at Chittagong airport have been grounded. National carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has also announced the suspension of flights to Cox’s Bazar and Kolkata.

Authorities have launched an intensified evacuation campaign to ensure all vulnerable people are moved to safety before the cyclone’s landfall. Cyclone shelters have been prepared, and medical teams are on standby to provide urgent healthcare support.

This is the first cyclone of the pre-monsoon season in the Bay of Bengal, and preparations are in full swing to mitigate potential damage and protect the lives of those in the affected coastal districts. Stay tuned for further updates on Cyclone Remal as it approaches the Bangladesh coast.
