Denver International Airport welcomed a historic moment as Aer Lingus landed for the first time from Dublin, Ireland. On board was Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, along with business, tourism, and civic leaders. The delegation, led by Johnston and DIA CEO Phil Washington, aimed to strengthen commercial and cultural ties between Denver and Dublin.
During the flight, Johnston declared May 17, 2024, as Aer Lingus Inaugural Flight Celebration Day in Denver. The plane stayed on the ground for less than two hours before departing on its journey from Denver to Dublin. Passengers on the inaugural flight enjoyed a sendoff with city officials, Aer Lingus representatives, Tourism Ireland, and the Irish government.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “Our conversations with leaders in Ireland will directly support tourism and businesses in both cities.” DIA officials estimate that the new Aer Lingus service to Dublin will generate over $65 million in annual economic impact to Colorado’s economy and create more than 400 new jobs across the state.
DEN CEO Phil Washington thanked Aer Lingus for their investment in the Denver market, emphasizing the new nonstop flights to Dublin support DEN’s goal of expanding global connections. The celebration was marked with music, treats, and special guests at the airport.
