Richard Bland Wins Senior PGA Championship and Dedicates Win to Brother Battling Cancer

In a heartwarming and emotional victory, England’s Richard Bland secured the Senior PGA Championship title on his senior major debut. Bland, 51, finished the event at Harbor Shores in Michigan with a stellar eight-under final round, putting him at 18 under overall and three strokes clear of Australia’s Richard Green.

Bland’s triumph came after an eagle at the par-five 15th hole propelled him into the lead, surpassing fellow Australian Greg Chalmers. Despite a weather delay, Bland maintained his composure, paring his final three holes and signing off with an impressive 63. Meanwhile, Chalmers finished four shots behind at 13 under after a three-under 68.

The victory was especially poignant for Bland, who dedicated his win to his brother Heath, currently battling cancer. In an emotional display during the trophy presentation, Bland expressed his deep desire to win for his brother, stating, “This trophy isn’t mine, it’s his.”

Reflecting on his win, Bland shared his joy and gratitude, saying, “The British Masters was very special at 48. This is right up there. I couldn’t be happier. I’m going to celebrate the hell out of this one.” The win also secures Bland’s exemption for the upcoming US Senior Open in Rhode Island.

Bland’s journey to victory has been one of resilience and determination. After winning his first DP World Tour event in 2021, he joined LIV Golf in 2022, showcasing his competitive spirit and talent among his peers. The win at the Senior PGA Championship marks another milestone in Bland’s impressive career, highlighting his skill and unwavering dedication to the sport.

As Bland prepares for his upcoming tournaments, including LIV Golf Nashville and the US Senior Open, his inspiring victory serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of family in the face of adversity.
