World Number One Scottie Scheffler Detained by Police Ahead of US PGA Championship Second Round
The world of golf was rocked today as world number one Scottie Scheffler was detained by police following what has been described as a ‘misunderstanding’ ahead of his US PGA Championship second round. Scheffler, who had been in contention after shooting a four-under-par round on Thursday, found himself in hot water after attempting to drive past a police officer to enter the grounds at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.
According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, Scheffler tried to make his way into Valhalla without proper authorization following a fatal traffic accident near the course. This led to the 27-year-old being stopped by police, pushed against a car, and handcuffed before being placed into a police car.
The Louisville Metro Police Dept provided an update on the incident, stating that a pedestrian was struck and killed by a shuttle bus in the vicinity of the course, leading to an ongoing investigation by the LMPD Traffic Unit.
As a result of the incident, the start of the second round was delayed by one hour and 20 minutes, with Scheffler’s tee-time now set for 10.08am local time. However, his participation in the tournament remains uncertain, with a possible withdrawal looming unless a resolution is reached with authorities.
The golfing world now waits with bated breath to see how this situation unfolds for the reigning world number one. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
