Global IT Outage Causes Major US Airlines to Ground Flights Across the Country
In a shocking turn of events, major US airlines have grounded flights across the country due to communication issues stemming from a global IT outage. This widespread technical problem has not only affected airlines but also banks, emergency services, and airports worldwide.
American Airlines, the world’s largest airline by passenger numbers, has confirmed that no flights are allowed to take off at this time. The airline is in contact with all flights currently in the air, trying to manage the situation caused by a “technical issue” with Crowdstrike, an antivirus software. Despite attempts to reach out to Crowdstrike for comment, they have not responded.
Reports suggest that a software update issued by Crowdstrike has caused Windows devices to crash, further complicating the issue. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a notice to carriers grounding all flights regardless of their destination.
Delta and United airlines, along with several smaller carriers, have also been impacted by the tech outage. Similarly, US airline Frontier has cited a “major Microsoft technical outage” affecting its operations.
Internationally, flights have been grounded in Japan, India, and the Netherlands due to IT problems. Narita airport in Japan, Delhi airport in India, and Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport have all reported delays and disruptions caused by the ongoing IT outage.
With airports and airlines grappling with the effects of this global IT issue, travelers are advised to stay updated on the situation as it unfolds.
