In a devastating turn of events, renowned chef and ‘Top Chef Masters’ alum Naomi Pomeroy has passed away at the age of 49 following a tragic inner tube accident. Pomeroy’s body was recovered four days after the incident, which occurred in the Willamette River in Oregon.
The accident took place when Pomeroy, attached to a paddleboard, was on the river with her husband, Kyle Linden Webster, and another individual. Rough currents near river mile 132 in Corvallis led to Pomeroy being pulled underwater and unable to free herself due to the paddleboard leash.
Despite efforts by the Corvallis Fire Department, Pomeroy’s body could not be recovered at the time of the incident. It wasn’t until a group of individuals canoeing along the river discovered her body on a shallow section of bedrock a few days later.
Pomeroy, a prominent figure in the Oregon culinary scene, had made a name for herself with her restaurant Beast and later won a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific. She continued to innovate with new ventures such as Ripe Cooperative and Cornet Custard.
