Dick Pound warns that if the U.S. investigates Chinese swimmers, they could lose the Winter Olympics

The Possible Consequences for the United States in the Summer Olympics

The future of the Olympics for the United States is at stake as former senior International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound warns that the country may lose its right to host or compete in the games. This comes as a result of the U.S. law enforcement agencies’ investigation into alleged doping cases involving Chinese swimmers.

Pound, who is also the World Anti-Doping Agency’s founding president, raised concerns that the U.S.’s use of The Rodchenkov Act to investigate the Chinese swimmers’ contamination case may violate the world anti-doping code. If the U.S. is found to be non-compliant with the code, it could be barred from hosting or participating in international sporting events, including the Olympics.

The possibility of the U.S. losing the Olympics has raised alarm bells within the International Olympic Committee, with talks of potentially delaying the confirmation of Salt Lake City as the host of the 2034 Winter Olympics. Swiss independent prosecutor Eric Cottier’s review found no evidence of bias or irregularities in WADA’s handling of the case, while the audit by World Aquatics also found no mismanagement or cover-up.

The future of American participation in the Olympics hangs in the balance as the international sports community watches closely to see how this investigation unfolds. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
