Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg trades in the recording booth for the track at U.S. Olympic trials
Snoop Dogg, known for his iconic rap career and laid-back persona, surprised fans and spectators alike when he took to the track at the U.S. Olympic athletics trials in Eugene, Oregon on Monday. Donning a patriotic tracksuit and a tribute shirt to Kobe Bryant, Snoop lined up for a 200-meter exhibition race against former Olympic medalist Ato Boldon and NCAA champion Wallace Spearmon.
Although Snoop didn’t quite match the speed of his competitors, finishing in third place, he still impressed with a time of 34.44 seconds. The 52-year-old rapper expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating, “34.44 for a 52-year-old? Ain’t bad.”
In addition to his racing debut, Snoop will also be heading to Paris as a Special Correspondent for NBC’s primetime Games coverage. Alongside host Mike Tirico, Snoop provided viewers with his unique commentary on the trials, offering his take on the men’s 3000m steeplechase event.
During the steeplechase, Snoop marveled at the athletes’ ability to jump over hurdles, exclaiming, “You can do that?! That was a cold trick right there. I like that one. Went off the tippy-top.” NBC praised Snoop’s commentary as “ELECTRIC” and “the content we never knew we needed.”
As the U.S. trials continue, big names like Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles have already secured their spots for the summer Games. Snoop took to social media to share his excitement, saying, “This wknd was fun … much respect to all tha world class athletes … see yall in Paris.”
Despite his lack of track experience, Snoop Dogg proved that he can still hold his own on the track and entertain audiences with his signature style and humor.
