With the global demand for nickel in batteries set to skyrocket to 500,000 tonnes by 2025 from 150,000 tonnes in 2020, the collaboration between Vedanta Nico and AEsir Technologies comes at a pivotal time in the EV market adoption.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts a substantial increase in the number of electric cars on the roads, rising from over 10 million in 2020 to a staggering 145 million by 2030. This surge in demand is driven by advancements in battery capacities, faster charging technologies, and the push to reduce cobalt use in batteries.
Through the strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with AEsir Technologies, Vedanta Nico aims to develop cutting-edge nickel-zinc batteries for critical infrastructure, 5G telecom, and electric vehicle chargers.
