Heading: University of Iowa’s Health Care System Recognized in U.S. News & World Report Rankings 2024-25
The University of Iowa’s Health Care operation has made significant strides in the latest U.S. News & World Report “best hospital” rankings for 2024-25. For the first time in several years, the hospital has improved its standing, with notable rankings in three adult specialties.
According to the latest rankings, the UIHC Medical Center has placed in the Top 50 nationally in three adult specialties, including ophthalmology, ear, nose, and throat, and cancer care. This marks a positive shift from previous years when the hospital’s ranking had weakened.
In addition to its improved rankings, UIHC has also maintained its position as the top hospital in Iowa. The hospital was also recognized for its “high-performing” status in five adult specialties, including cardiology, heart, and vascular surgery; gastroenterology and GI surgery; orthopedics; pulmonology and lung surgery; and urology.
UI Vice President for Medical Affairs and UI Carver College of Medicine Dean Denise Jamieson expressed pride in the hospital’s accomplishments, highlighting the compassionate and high-quality care provided by the team. She emphasized the value of having a nationally respected academic health system in Iowa.
The U.S. News rankings involved the evaluation of nearly 5,000 hospitals based on various criteria, including patient outcomes, satisfaction scores, patient safety, advanced technology, nursing quality, and certification. UIHC’s rankings in three specialties this year show an improvement from previous years, although they still fall below the hospital’s peak performance.
Overall, the University of Iowa’s Health Care operation’s success in the latest rankings is a testament to its dedication to advancing healthcare and providing top-notch services to the community. The hospital’s recognition on a national level solidifies its position as a leading healthcare provider in the state.
