Elite Athlete Lineup Revealed for the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon
The 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon is gearing up to be an epic event, as past champions and exciting marathon stars are set to compete in this year’s elite athlete lineup. The lineup, announced on Thursday, includes some of the fastest women of all time, as well as top marathon stars making their debut in the United States.
Among the standout athletes in the women’s field is Sutume Kebede from Ethiopia, who holds the title of the fastest marathoner in the women’s division and recently achieved the eighth fastest time of all time at the 2024 Tokyo Marathon. Kebede, who had an unfortunate finish in the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, expressed her excitement about returning to the course and aiming for greatness.
Joining Kebede on the starting line will be Ruth Chepngetich, a past Chicago champion who clinched victory in both the 2021 and 2022 races and came in second in 2023. The women’s field will also feature the second and third fastest American women of all time, including Keira D’Amato and Betsy Saina.
On the men’s side, Kenyan runner Amos Kipruto will be a highlight of the elite lineup. Kipruto, who has podium finishes in several major marathons including a victory in the 2022 TCS London Marathon, is aiming for a personal best and hopes to show his winning capabilities in Chicago.
In the wheelchair division, defending champions Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner will look to repeat their victories. Hug, known as the Swiss Silver Bullet, will face tough competition from American racer Daniel Romanchuk and Aaron Pike.
The 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon is set to take place on October 13 in Chicago’s Grant Park, promising a thrilling showcase of world-class talent and fierce competition. With a lineup of top athletes from around the globe, the event is expected to deliver exceptional performances and memorable moments for both participants and spectators.
