“North Dakota Athletes Shine at U.S. Paralympic Track and Field Trials”

The Paralympic Trials are fast approaching, and two exceptional athletes from North Dakota are ready to make their mark on the national stage. Isabelle Hogness and Sam Winter, both high school athletes, are set to compete in the U.S. Paralympic Track and Field trials in Miramar, Florida.

Hogness, a senior at Horace High School, has spina bifida and specializes in wheeled racing in the T54 classification. Despite her challenges, Hogness has shown extraordinary determination and skill, earning her a spot in the national team trials where she will compete in the 100m, 400m, and 800m events.

Winter, a recent homeschool graduate representing Des-Lacs Burlington/Berthold, competes as an ambulatory athlete in the T36 classification. Despite cerebral palsy, Winter will be showcasing his talents in the 100m, 400m, long jump, and shot put events at the U.S. National Trials. His resilience and passion for the sport have been an inspiration to many.

Both athletes have been training hard with the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports group, showing remarkable dedication and perseverance in pursuit of their athletic dreams. As they prepare for the national trials, Hogness and Winter are eager for the opportunity to compete at the highest level and push themselves further.

Looking beyond the trials, both athletes have bright futures ahead. Hogness is considering collegiate wheelchair racing programs, while Winter continues to excel in various para sports. Their journey serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and determination in achieving success, motivating individuals with and without disabilities to relentlessly chase their dreams.

Representing North Dakota on a national platform, Hogness and Winter are poised to make their state proud with their exceptional abilities and unwavering spirit.
