Tennessee’s Adjutant General Match Strengthens International and Local Partnerships
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. – The Tennessee National Guard recently hosted its inaugural Adjutant General Sniper Match from July 26 to 28 at Tullahoma’s Volunteer Training Site. The event, organized by the Tennessee Combat Marksmanship Program, brought together seven teams of two, including representatives from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Soldiers from Volunteer Training Site – Smyrna, the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, and participants from Bulgaria.
The purpose of the TAG Match was to showcase the State Partnership Program, which focuses on fostering enduring relationships through mutual training and cultural exchanges. Maj. Gen. Warner A. Ross, Tennessee’s Adjutant General, emphasized the significance of such competitions in enhancing skill development and promoting collaboration among diverse groups. He stated, “The bonds formed here extend well beyond the competition itself, leading to shared knowledge and partnerships that transcend borders. We are proud of our 30-year partnership with Bulgaria and grateful for the support of local law enforcement agencies.”
Throughout the match, participants were challenged with a series of events designed to test their marksmanship, teamwork, and tactical decision-making skills. The teams navigated through various challenges, exchanging valuable insights and fostering a culture of collaborative learning.
Maj. Mityo Panchev, the Bulgarian team leader, highlighted the importance of shared experiences in enriching training for both nations. Local law enforcement representatives also noted the exceptional opportunity to collaborate with military personnel, enhancing their effectiveness as a cohesive force.
The competition concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating the top-performing teams and recognizing the collective efforts of all participants. Bulgaria Team One claimed first place, followed closely by Volunteer Training Site – Smyrna and a team from the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Individual awards, such as the Top Shot and Governor’s Twenty Tab, were also presented to standout performers.
Col. Jason Glass, Assistant Adjutant General of the Tennessee Air National Guard, emphasized the event’s focus on warrior skills and the pride in Tennessee’s identity as warriors. The Tennessee National Guard showcased its commitment to international and local partnerships, highlighting the importance of community engagement within law enforcement agencies.
As the competition concluded, participants expressed their readiness to address future challenges collectively, building on the connections established during the event. The Bulgarian teams expressed their resolve and anticipation of returning for future matches, reflecting the spirit of camaraderie and shared training experienced during the TAG Match.
