Policy Announcements from the Conservative and Labour Parties
The battle lines have been drawn as the Conservative and Labour parties ramp up their policy announcements in the early stages of the election campaign.
The Conservative Party has pledged to bring back a “modern” form of national service for 18-year-olds, which could involve military service or volunteer work. They have also promised a new “triple lock plus” tax-free allowance for pensioners and proposed new education qualifications for 16 to 18-year-olds.
On the other side, the Labour Party has promised not to reverse recent cuts to national insurance or increase income tax. They have also pledged to abolish the non-dom tax status and introduce VAT to private school fees. Additionally, they have plans to increase NHS services with 40,000 more evening and weekend appointments per week, create a publicly owned energy company, and recruit more teachers.
It’s clear that both parties are vying for the support of voters with their ambitious policy proposals. As the campaign progresses, it will be interesting to see how these promises are received by the public and how they will shape the future of the country.
