Indian Pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Advance to US Open 2024 Badminton Quarter-finals

Indian badminton players Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have made the country proud by advancing to the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles event at the US Open 2024 badminton tournament held in Texas, United States. The duo, ranked 23rd in the world, staged an impressive comeback after losing the first game to triumph over world No. 83 Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En-Tzu of Chinese Taipei in a thrilling three-set match.

In the men’s singles category, Priyanshu Rajawat also secured a spot in the quarter-finals with a convincing straight-game victory over Huang Yu Kai of Chinese Taipei. The 22-year-old player, ranked world No. 40, outclassed his opponent, ranked 82nd, to progress to the next round where he will face off against world No. 34 Lei Lan Xi of China.

Furthermore, Indian shuttler Malvika Bansod showcased her talent by defeating Tereza Svabikova of Czechia in a closely contested match lasting 58 minutes. Bansod, seeded seventh in the tournament and ranked world No. 49, will now challenge two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland in the quarter-finals.

However, in the men’s doubles event, the sixth-seeded Indian pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and K Sai Pratheek faced a setback as they were defeated in the second round by Chen Zhi Yi and Presley Smith of the USA after a tough battle lasting 70 minutes.

The US Open 2024 badminton tournament, a BWF Super 300 event, will conclude on Sunday, with fans eagerly anticipating more exciting matches and remarkable performances from the Indian contingent.
