Saudi Arabia Grants Citizenship to Notable Foreign Experts in Various Fields to Support Development

Saudi Arabia has recently granted citizenship to several prominent foreign experts in different fields as part of a policy to attract creative minds and support the kingdom’s economic, health, cultural, and sports development.

According to the Saudi news agency SPA, a royal decree has been issued approving the granting of citizenship to a number of scientists, doctors, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and distinguished professionals. The move aims to benefit national interests and align with the Saudi Vision 2030, an ambitious development plan to overhaul the oil-dependent economy and create an environment conducive to utilizing competent human resources.

Among the notable individuals who have been granted Saudi citizenship are Mehmood Khan, a US citizen and CEO of the Hevolution Foundation, dedicated to funding global scientific discovery and investing in companies and entrepreneurs focused on aging science. Jackie Yi-Ru Ying, a US-Singaporean scientist and founding executive director of the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore, is also on the list. Additionally, Lebanese national Nevine Khashab, a renowned scientist with remarkable contributions to bioengineering and nanomaterials, was recognized for her scientific efficiency and granted Saudi citizenship.

This is not the first time Saudi Arabia has granted citizenship to foreign experts in various fields. In 2021, a royal decree was issued to grant Saudi citizenship to several foreign experts, showcasing the kingdom’s commitment to attracting talent and fostering development in key sectors.

The initiative to grant citizenship to foreign experts underscores Saudi Arabia’s dedication to leveraging the skills and knowledge of global talent to propel its growth and development as outlined in the Saudi Vision 2030.
