Celebrating Success: SCC International Students Program Recognized for Excellence
Santiago Canyon College International Students Program Recognized for Excellence
The International Students Program at Santiago Canyon College (SCC) is gaining recognition for its outstanding work in supporting students from around the world. With enrollment numbers steadily increasing, the program is attracting students from 26 different countries, including China, Brazil, India, and Vietnam.
Under the leadership of program director Jetza Torres, SCC has received accolades for its commitment to providing high-quality academic programs and student support services. Recently, Torres accepted an Export Achievement Certificate from the U.S. Department of Commerce in recognition of the program’s efforts to engage with overseas markets.
Congresswoman Young Kim also commended the program for its dedication to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for international students. The program’s success can be attributed to its student-centered approach, personalized attention, and small class sizes that cater to the needs of students accustomed to more intimate classroom settings.
One success story from the program is that of the Shamim brothers, Muhammad Shahmir Shamim and Muhammad Shahwar Shamim, who both found success at SCC. Muhammad Shahmir, who studied computer science, will transfer to UC Irvine, while his brother, also studying computer science, will transfer to Cal State Fullerton. The brothers credit their parents for instilling in them the value of education and appreciate the support they have received at SCC.
The program’s emphasis on providing exceptional customer service and a holistic college experience has resonated with the international student community. From social activities to academic support, SCC ensures that students feel welcomed and supported throughout their time at the college.
Overall, the presence of international students on campus enriches the academic environment and promotes global citizenship. As Torres aptly puts it, “International students promote cultural awareness and enhance the diversity of perspective in class discussions.” SCC’s International Students Program continues to excel in providing a supportive and inclusive community for students from all corners of the globe.
