OpenAI has appointed Fidji Simo, the current chair and CEO of Instacart, as its new CEO of Applications, effective later this year. Sam Altman, who remains the CEO of OpenAI, praised Simo for her significant contributions since joining the board in March 2024. He expressed confidence in her ability to lead existing business and operational teams to enhance the application of OpenAI’s research. Simo will continue her role at Instacart during the transition. This hiring follows other significant additions to OpenAI’s executive team in recent months.
