SFU Communication Professor Robert Anderson Wins Chris Dagg Award for International Impact
Simon Fraser University’s communication professor, Robert Anderson, has been awarded the prestigious Chris Dagg Award for International Impact in 2018. Known for his expertise in international negotiation, dialogue, and conflict analysis, Anderson has been recognized for his profound contribution to sustainable international development on behalf of the university.
Anderson, who joined the SFU School of Communication in 1977, expressed his gratitude for being nominated and chosen by his colleagues for the award. He also acknowledged the previous winners from the school, professors Yuezhi Zhao and Peter Anderson, and noted the honor of personally knowing Chris Dagg, the late internationalist whom the award honors.
Throughout his career at SFU, Anderson has been involved in various international initiatives, including founding the “Devs-Group” in 2001, initiating foreign policy and Afghanistan dialogues at the Dialogue Institute, and building a network of young environmentalists in Myanmar since 1999. He credits his colleagues for supporting his unconventional approach to research and teaching, which has led to impactful international collaborations and partnerships.
The award, named after Chris Dagg, recognizes individuals who exemplify a commitment to international cooperation and sustainable development. Dagg, who held key international cooperation roles at SFU for over 30 years, was known for his contributions to major projects in China and Indonesia.
Anderson’s receipt of the Chris Dagg Award for International Impact highlights his dedication to global engagement and his significant contributions to advancing sustainable international development at SFU and beyond.
