Renowned Fashion Model and Actor Renauld White Passes Away at 80

Remembering Renauld White: Fashion Icon and Soap Opera Star

Renauld White, a fashion model and soap opera actor, has passed away at the age of 80. His longtime friend, fashion designer Jeffrey Banks, confirmed the news, stating that White was under hospice care at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital before his passing on Wednesday, June 26. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Banks shared the news on Instagram, paying tribute to White as a dear friend and work colleague. White, who was known for breaking barriers in the fashion industry, was the second Black model to grace the cover of GQ magazine in November 1979. He advocated for greater diversity and representation within the fashion world and was admired for his work with designers like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Donna Karan.

In addition to his modeling career, White also portrayed the character of William Reynolds on CBS’ Guiding Light. Despite his retirement from acting and modeling, White made a brief return in 2023 for a Dolce & Gabbana ad campaign shot by renowned photographer Steven Meisel.

During a 2011 interview, White spoke about his efforts to bring about change in the industry by calling out the lack of diversity and advocating for more Black male models. He courageously challenged the establishment to listen and adapt to the changing times.

White’s legacy as a trailblazer in the fashion world and advocate for representation will be remembered by many. May he rest in peace.
