France’s William Saliba shines as Les Bleus advance to Euro 2024 quarter-finals

In a highly anticipated match in the Euro 2024, two Gunners faced off as William Saliba led France to a 1-0 victory over Leandro Trossard’s Belgium. Saliba, the young defender, played a crucial role in keeping Belgium’s main striker, Romelu Lukaku, at bay with his stellar defensive performance.

The game was settled with a late own goal by Jan Vertonghen, sending France through to the quarter-finals. While Saliba continued to impress with his 19th cap for Les Bleus, Trossard found himself on the bench for the entirety of the match, ending his involvement in the tournament after playing 171 minutes in the group stage.

Coach Didier Deschamps praised the defensive solidity of his team, highlighting the importance of ball distribution from the back. With players like Saliba, who plays for top clubs like Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern, and AC Milan, Deschamps expressed his confidence in the team’s abilities.

With the win, Saliba and five other Gunners are still in the running to lift the Euro 2024 trophy. The quarter-finals will see Kai Havertz’s Germany face David Raya’s Spain, while England’s trio of Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Aaron Ramsdale will take on Switzerland in their quest for European glory. It remains to be seen if Saliba and his Arsenal teammates can go all the way in the tournament.
